Julie Answers: How can I deal with waves of being unmotivated?

Patricia asked: I have these waves of sadness, feeling unmotivated, and being sleepy. This happens some days; other days I wake up feeling great and I get things done. On the bad days, nothing I do can get me out of that feeling. I will sleep after work or just lay in bed all day. My room will be a mess. I have things to do but I just lie there. It frustrates me because I don’t want to be this way, but I don’t know what else to do.

Working from home has been a rollercoaster. I thought I would like it, and so I feel guilty for complaining and not appreciating this time. By the end of most evenings, I feel like I’ve gone through hell and back. The feelings of being unmotivated and sad come out of nowhere. I would just like to know how I can combat these feelings and push through them.

I’d like to start by asking you to reflect on your past history of feeling the way you do now, or anything similar.
